Focus {bokeh}- SS Week 9 Link up

Written by Elena @ Selfie Magic on . Posted in Self Portraits, Selfie Saturdays, Weekly Photo Challenges

This week’s Selfie Saturday theme is Focus

{you can read tips on how to get a sharp focused image while shooting self-portraits here}
And the assignment was to shoot bokeh. I heart those little balls of light in the distance, so I had a lot of fun shooting this.
Before, I made sure I picked one image to display for Selfie Saturday, but today I will start a new tradition of a few different images that I liked…maybe even fun outtakes if I ever shoot some.

I thought long and hard about how to make these shots different from my others.
I had to be in the picture, since it’s a self portrait.
To get bokeh, I had to be in the foreground, so that means a close-up.
After postponing shooting my bokeh shots for a whole week for lack of original ideas, I finally decided to play a bit with make up. I used my favorite golden glitter on both lips and eyes, and pulled out golden headband and top.
On top of it all, I am still without a remote {dang it!}. I get so frustrated shooting without a remote, it takes so much longer and by the end of the session I am swearing up and down in my head and resolving not to shoot anymore until I get the damn remote (I have my remote now, but the batteries are still missing). I can’t imagine how any of you can get anything decent done shooting on a self-timer.

Also, there’s something I wanted to say in reference to the past week’s challenge. I was very impressed how many women got the point of shooting self-portraits and steping out from the shadows for their own sake and the sake of their children. I loved the excitement, I loved the lightbulb that seemed to go off over many of your heads “This CAN be good! It CAN be fun!”.
We do need to continue trying to get through to other bloggers to stop being afraid of the camera.

I was thinking that  maybe some of you are thinking: “Ok, how MANY pictures of myself do I need to take  in one year, really? I don’t need a picture a week of just me.”
The point of this is not to collect pictures of yourself, per se. It is to learn HOW to take self-portraits, how to be creative, how to use your remote and tripod, how to be in the photo, how to pose and most importantly how to feel comfortable in front of the camera. And as a plus side, you’ll end up with lots of different interesting self-portraits. But once you got the skill of self-portraiture, you can do much more and you’ll feel so much better being in the photos and being creative.
Eventually, these tutorials will end and by then I hope that you will be well equipped with skills to continue showing up in family photos and taking your own pictures just for the sake of photography. I will still continue the linky, though. {don’t worry!} . We will have with weekly themes, so that we could continue practicing self-portraiture if we wish to.

Next week’s theme is My friend, the FAN {come back to read it tomorrow}

    seriously you look like a Greek golden goddess! Beautiful. I am going to have to take some selfies this weekend, I am in ct and there is still no sign of spring. Any tips on getting good bokah without light going through greenery?

    Your photos this week are gorgeous – I know I didn’t completely follow the prompt this week (I might have slipped into inner child mode), but you know how much fun I’m having with these. Thanks again for hosting week after week…you’ve inspired so many of us!
