Unless you are just going for a headshot, you will want to think about what to wear in your self-portrait photographs on order to achieve the best possible effect. For example, for my pregnancy shots I wore a fitted red dress to really show off my bump. If you are organizing a family self-portrait, then don’t just wear the comfy clothes which you might usually wear to play online foxy or watch Saturday night TV. Remember, these are shots which you will want to keep forever. Even though you might not be hiring a photographer, you’ll want to wear clothes which you know make you look and feel great in order to capture shots which you will be proud of.

You should also take into consideration the location of your selfies. A floral dress of casual caftan might look amazing in a picturesque park or on a beach, but selfies taken in the lobby of a luxurious hotel might be better suited to an evening gown paired with eye-catching jewelry. Think about whether you want your outfit to be the focus of an image, or whether it is better to keep your clothes simply as to not detract from your face or surroundings.

Lastly, wear something that you’ll feel comfortable in when on camera. This applies even if your clothes are likely to be out of the shot, as it can make a huge difference to the confidence which you have on camera.
